OPPORTUNITIES

For more than 20 years, Switzer Learning Center has been actively involved in training doctoral level psychology interns.  Our internship training program has full time stipend positions that focus on psychotherapy with children and adolescents, psychological assessment and testing, behavioral assessment, interdisciplinary consultation, case management, and advocacy.  The Center serves a culturally and ethnically diverse population of all income levels.  Students with whom the intern works may range in age from 8 to 22 years old, and will have a variety of learning, emotional and behavioral problems that have brought them to Switzer Learning Center.

o   Program Description:  The psychology internship training program begins each school year in September and continues through the middle of August.  Interns work full time and receive a monthly stipend for their work.  Interns will provide individual psychotherapy and crisis intervention with the Switzer students assigned to their caseload.  They will review clinical and educational records for their students, administer psychological, academic and behavioral assessments and participate in their student’s annual Individual Educational Planning (IEP) meeting. Internship training includes both individual and group supervision as well as didactic training, case conferences, interdisciplinary team meetings and conjoint sessions with the student’s parents/guardian and their supervisor.

For additional information about the coming year’s internship training program, please contact Director of Clinical Services by email at clinical@switzercenter.org.

o   Internship Application:  As a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC), Switzer Learning Center’s internship program follows the policies and application procedures of that organization.  Please go to the APPIC website (link to http://www.natmatch.com/psychint/reglink.htm) to complete your internship application.

In accordance with California Law (AB1858) psychology interns at nonpublic schools must be registered with the Board of Psychology (BOP) as a Psychological Assistant.  Therefore, the intern must possess a Masters Degree in Psychology from an accredited institution, in addition to completion of their doctoral level course work prior to beginning their internship.
