OUR
STUDENTS
|
|
Our
special education students:
-
Are in grades 3-12 and are 8 to 22 years old
-
Are referred by many different school
districts (link to school map)
-
Struggle with severe learning (e.g. dyslexia) or
developmental disabilities (e.g. autism) and/or
serious emotional (e.g. depression) or
behavioral disorders (e.g. attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder)
-
Represent many different ethnic and racial
groups
-
Approximately 25 % of students live below the
poverty level
-
About 35% live in group or foster homes or in
kinship care with relatives
-
Some have experienced physical or emotional
abuse or neglect, while gangs, substance abuse
and the juvenile justice system have confronted
others.
In spite of their challenges, each student has the
opportunity to start fresh at Switzer Learning
Center and turn their stumbling blocks into stepping
stones to success.
We are proud of our students and dedicate a portion
of this website to their accomplishments.
